What is Sleep Apnoea?
Sleep apnoea is so much more than being a loud snorer, it is a serious disorder that deprives your brain and body of oxygen. Your body never gets the chance to properly refresh and reset leaving you exhausted when you wake up, often with a headache too.
The effects of sleep apnoea are further reaching than how you feel in the morning. The prolonged periods without breathing can worsen high blood pressure and diabetes and makes it harder for your body to shift excess weight.
How Does a Sleep Apnoea Test Work?
The good news is that sleep apnoea is easy to test for, and simple to treat.
Take our overnight test home to use in the comfort of your own bed. Our sleep specialist will analyse the results and make a diagnosis.
Sleep Apnoea Machines or CPAP Machines
If you have sleep apnoea then we can set you up with a machine that helps keep you breathing all night. CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) machines have come a long way in the past few years. They are super quiet (definitely quieter than your snoring!) with a wide range of comfortable masks.
Generally we hire out a CPAP machine to you for a month while you test out different masks and find the right fit. The CPAP machine (our favourite is the Phillips DreamStation) keeps track of how many times you stop breathing, and we will monitor that to make sure you’re getting the benefits, before we sell you a machine.
Although it can take a few weeks to get used to, our patients who use their machine every night tell us they feel so much better.
